Teen who stole Porsche, dumped baby in Jersey City street is charged with carjacking, kidnapping: police

A Newark teen has been charged with carjacking and kidnapping in a harrowing incident Friday in which he forced a woman out of her Porsche and drove away with her baby in the back seat, authorities said.

The 16-year-old was also charged with endangerment of a child in the incident that occurred Friday at noon in Downtown Jersey City. Police say the boy, whose name was not released because he鈥檚 a minor, dumped the 5-month-old in front of 389 Washington St., nearly a half-mile from where the Porsche was stolen on Montgomery Street.

The boy鈥檚 mother told police the Newark teen entered the 2023 white Porsche Macan through the driver鈥檚 side and demanded she get out. The teen fled and Jersey City police located the vehicle speeding north on Marin Boulevard, but did not pursue it because of the high rate of speed and time of day, Jersey City spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione said.

Police located the 5-month-old on Washington Street and the boy, who suffered minor scrapes, and his mother were taken to a local hospital, Wallace-Scalcione said.
